About Us - Our Remote Journey

Hi guys! We’re Georgie and Ben.

Adventure is in our blood. Our remote journey began in a community school in the Far East Pilbara for four years, where we experienced firsthand the rewards and challenges of working in remote Australia. Over the following four years, we travelled across some of Australia’s most remote landscapes, from the Gibb River Road and Tanami Track to Central Arnhem Road, Central Australia and Cape York. These experiences shaped our understanding of remote communities, the people who call them home and the qualities needed to thrive in these environments.

Since then, we’ve made over 200 placements across remote and unique locations, connecting passionate professionals with schools, communities and organisations across Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland. We’re proud of the relationships we’ve built with candidates and communities, and we’re excited to continue connecting people with meaningful opportunities across remote Australia.

Georgie MIkus APRCSA B.Ed

Hi there! I’m Georgie, the person behind many of the emails, messages and conversations at Footprint Placements. I love getting to know people — understanding what matters to them, what they’re looking for and helping connect them with opportunities where they can thrive.

Behind the scenes, I wear many hats, from managing advertising and promotions to overseeing systems, operations and creating content that connects professionals with meaningful opportunities across remote Australia.

My journey in remote recruitment began through my own experience working in the East Pilbara as a teacher and Head of Campus. During this time, I experienced firsthand the rewards and challenges of remote education, from building strong community relationships to developing programs that supported student engagement and achievement.

These experiences shaped my belief that great people make a lasting difference in remote communities. I’m passionate about connecting organisations with professionals who are not only skilled in their roles, but also understand the importance of relationships, flexibility and community connection.

Ben Mikus

Hi, I’m Ben! If you’ve interviewed for one of our talent pools or been searching for a professional to join your team, there’s a good chance we’ve already connected.

At Footprint Placements, I work closely with our clients and candidates — managing client relationships, supporting recruitment needs and getting to know the people behind each opportunity. I’m proud to have been recognised as Best Recruiter in Education and Childcare based on reviews from teachers and clients through Sourcr for 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Before Footprint Placements, I spent seven years working in remote communities across a range of roles. My experience includes supporting school operations, managing communication and coordination between staff and stakeholders, overseeing compliance, data and funding requirements, and helping schools navigate the unique challenges of remote settings.

I also worked as a Ranger Coordinator in the Far East Pilbara, where I built and supported a ranger team with a strong focus on intergenerational transfer of cultural and environmental knowledge.

These experiences have given me a genuine understanding of the people, communities and organisations we work with. I’m passionate about connecting great professionals with opportunities where they can contribute, grow and feel part of something meaningful.
